In this lesson, you will learn that pictures show you important things that are happening in a story.

You need to know this so you can learn all that you can from a story.

In the snowy picture above, there were no words. You were still able to learn what the picture was telling you though!

Words tell a story.

Pictures tell a story.

In books, words AND pictures work together to tell a story!

You need to look at both!

Another word for pictures is illustrations.

You have to look at illustrations in books so you can know more of the story.

Ask yourself:

• What does this illustration show me?
• Why does this illustration go with the words?
