One great way to use numbers is to count.

You know what all the numbers look like when they are written and how they sound when they are read.
Read on to learn more about numbers! You will need a pencil and paper for this section.
When you count aloud, you usually start with the number one (1).
That's right! The number that comes before one is zero (0). If you have zero apples, that means you have no apples.
Great job! If you have zero bananas, that means you have no bananas at all. Look at the number zero below.
That's right! It looks like the letter O! Draw the number zero on a sheet of paper.

After zero comes the number one. Look at the picture of the number one. There is one picture of the number one:
Look at the picture below. This picture shows one finger.
When you are finished, draw the number one on your sheet of paper.
After one comes the number two (2). Look at the pictures of number two below. There are two pictures of the number two!
Look at the picture below. This picture shows two fingers being held up.
Excellent work! Write the number two on your sheet of paper.
After two comes the number three (3). Look at the pictures below of the number three. There are three pictures of the number three!
After holding up three fingers, write the number three on a sheet of paper.
Four (4) comes after three. Look at the pictures of the number four below. There are four pictures of the number four!
When you are finished, draw the number four on your paper.
That's right! The number five (5) comes after the number four. Look at the pictures of the number five below. There are five pictures of the number five.
Hold up five fingers like the picture below, then write the number five.
After five comes the number six (6). There are six pictures of the number six below.
Write the number six on your paper.
Seven (7) comes after six. There are seven pictures of the number seven.
When you are finished, write the number seven on your paper.
After seven comes the number eight (8).
That's right! There are eight pictures of the number eight.
Hold up eight fingers like the picture below. Count your fingers aloud. When you are finished counting, write the number eight on your paper.
The next number is the number nine (9). Nine comes after eight. There are nine pictures of the number nine. Count them aloud.
Hold up nine fingers like the picture below. Count your fingers aloud. When you are finished counting, draw the number nine.
After nine comes the number ten (10).
That's right! There are ten pictures of the number ten.
Fantastic! Count them aloud; then write the number ten on your paper.
