As you have seen from the first Pride and Prejudice lesson, found under Related Lessons in the right-hand sidebar, Mr. Collins has begun to develop an interest in Elizabeth Bennet after Mrs. Bennet kindly informs him Jane Bennet may soon be engaged to Mr. Bingley.

Elizabeth, however, is unaware of Mr. Collins's intentions. In this section of the novel, you will see what happens when Elizabeth learns of Mr. Collins's plan to marry her.

Before reading, you will need to define the vocabulary for Chapters 16-26. For this lesson:

1. Define the following list of vocabulary words in your notebook from the section of the novel to be read for each lesson. You can use a print dictionary or use Dictionary.com to look up the words.
2. After the definition for each word, write a sentence using the word correctly. Have your parent or teacher check the sentences when you've finished to make sure the words are used correctly in context.

Keep these lists in a notebook because there will be a general vocabulary quiz covering all five lessons at the end of your study of the novel.
