Verbs are words used to express action or being. In this lesson you will identify the being verbs and when to use them.

"Be" is the most common being verb. This table illustrates the different forms of "be":

Find the being verb in the sentences below:

1. Mrs. Smith was my piano teacher for three years.
2. My little brother was one year old on December 12.
3. Is that my piece of strawberry shortcake?

In sentences 1 and 2, "was" is the being verb. In sentence 3, the being verb is"is."
