Are you as curious as a kitten? Do you soak up knowledge like a sponge? Don't they make interesting pictures in your imagination? Learn to create clever images like an artist as you write with simile!
A pie is sweet! This girl can also be described as sweet. You could say the girl is as sweet as apple pie! Learn what similar things you can say with similes!
Comparing the sweet girl to a sweet apple pie is an example of a simile.
A simile is when you compare two different things that are not related. A simile always uses the words "like" and "as" to compare two things. You would use a simile to emphasize a point or make an image more vivid.
You'll learn some more about similes in a video. Similes will tell you more about a simile and give you a chance to think of your own examples!
Tell your parent or teacher an example of a simile you saw in the video.
Now, think about how you can compare the way a dog smells to something. Tell your parent or teacher your simile, and be sure to use the word "like" or "as" in your comparison. Use the examples below for guidance:
The dog smells like __________.
The dog is as smelly as _______________.
Now, you are ready for some more practice in the Got It? section!
