Sometimes, we focus on visiting other towns, cities, or countries and forget about what is special about where we live. What is interesting about your home? Make a commercial about your town!
Every city and town is different.
Each has a different history — when it was founded and by whom, how it was founded, and how it grew. Individual cities and towns also have various geographical features — something for which it is known, different attractions, and an array of activities and restaurants that offer things for people and families to do.
In this lesson, you will have an opportunity to learn more about your city or town. It's time to find out what makes your city or town special!
First, research the city or town where you live.
Research your city or town by using a search engine or by visiting your local library.
If you use a search engine, just type in the name of your city or town and your state. Including your state is important because there are several cities throughout the country with the same name. Springfield is a good example of a town or city name that can be found in more than half of the fifty states!
As you compile information about your city or town, record your findings in the interactive chart below.
When you have finished your research and completed your chart, be sure to SAVE your answers.
Consider the following questions.
When you are finished, hold on to your research. You will use your findings to create an infographic about your city or town in the Got It? section.
