Long multiplication can be challenging, but it doesn't have to be!

Using lattice math to solve multiplication problems is kind of like solving a puzzle, and if you enjoy puzzles and problem-solving, you will love lattice multiplication!

A few tips for finding a product using lattice multiplication:

1. Use graph paper with large squares. This will prevent you from having to draw your squares and will help you keep everything nice and neat. You can print Graph Paper from Downloadable Resources in the right-hand sidebar.
2. Use a highlighter or colored marker to draw your diagonal lines. Once again, this will help keep everything neat and will make it easier to add your columns.

Now that you have learned lattice multiplication, think about why it is important to be able to solve multiplication problems.

It does not matter what method you use to solve multiplication problems. The important thing is that you find a method that works best for you, because multiplication is used every day!

You may have to use long multiplication to figure out how much tax will cost on an item, or the cost of gas for your car.
