What is the point of this lesson? To find the point, or theme, of a story. Sometimes, the theme is hidden, but these videos, online exercises, and worksheets will help you learn to find THE MEssage!
Everything we read has a message that the author is trying to get across to the reader.
This hidden idea within the story is the THEME!
A theme within a book, short story, or poetry is the message readers can take away after they have finished reading.
It is not the main idea of the story, but the big idea that connects the work to the reader. This big idea can exist outside of the story.
A few common examples of themes are:
Take a few minutes to think about books you have read or movies you have seen (because movies have themes, too).
