Reading a book doesn't end when you read the last sentence.

Good readers use many strategies when they read. Reading strategies help readers understand and comprehend what they are reading.

Take a moment to think about the strategies you use when you read. Then write them down on a piece of paper.

Next, compare your list with the list below. These are just a few strategies readers use:

• Make predictions
• Use context clues from the text to make inferences
• Develop stop and ask questions
• Make connections with story elements
• Use what you already know
