Get ready for your outdoor math lesson!
- Print the Frog Printable found in Downloadable Resources in the right-hand sidebar.
- Cut out the frogs.
- Bring them outside, along with sidewalk chalk.
- With the help of your parent or teacher, make a large number line, from 0-10, that you can walk on. Here is an example of a number line you can draw:

- Now, try out a problem: 2 frogs + 4 frogs = ___ frogs.
- The problem starts with 2 frogs, so put 2 frogs on the number line, one on the 1, and one on the 2.
- Now, you are going to hold the rest of the frogs and jump forward 4 spots, putting a frog down at each number.
- So, starting at the 2, jump to 3 and put a frog down, jump to 4 and put a frog down, jump to 5 and put a frog down, and the last jump, jump to 6 and put a frog down.
- You just added 4 frogs to the number line!
- Jump off and count how many frogs there are now.
- The answer in addition is called the sum. So what is the sum of 2 frogs and 4 frogs? 2 + 4 = 6!
